"The staff are so kind, caring and very attentive. We traveled for my husband's birthday and they arranged a surprise birthday bush breakfast. We are vegetarian and they accommodated us and we're always so obliging to accommodate our 5yr old daughter. Nosipho, Siboniso and Noluthando ensured we were always well taken care off. Vaughn made the best guide, he was so kind and patient. Always trying his best to ensure every safari was fruitful and his wealth of knowledge and passion for his job was truly appreciated. The chefs Zandile and Nonhlanhla were absolutely amazing! Meals were delicious and presented so beautifully. Vaughn and Siboniso arranged a surprise sundowner for us, was truly breath taking! What an amazing team, full of kindness and warmth. We truly enjoyed our stay and will certainly be back! We have always recommended this lodge to our friends and families."

"No fault of the property but sadly due to the rain and mud we were unable to access several of the tracks across the reserve and sadly only saw 2 of the big 5. But we did see loads of other animals."

"We had a fantastic stay at Mavela Lodge and overall it was an amazing safari experience. The food was truly outstanding — very extensive, with unique flavors and beautifully prepared dishes. A big plus for us was the fresh espresso and cappuccinos in the morning, which really elevated breakfast. The open bar concept is also super relaxed and enjoyable: you can simply help yourself to great wines and drinks whenever you like — from gin & tonics to excellent wines. It really adds to the laid-back luxury feel. The safari game drives were great as well. The vehicles are very comfortable with spacious seating, making it feel like a premium experience. We saw incredible wildlife, including lots of elephants and lions. One afternoon, lions even walked right past the lodge, and at night you can hear the sounds of animals in the distance — unforgettable. When the weather is nice, the campfire outside is a really fun touch and creates a great atmosphere in the evening."

"The tents are beautiful, spacious, and feel very luxurious. That said, they can be quite noisy when there is strong wind, and we noticed that staff leave during the night — which means there doesn’t seem to be active overnight security around the lodge for wildlife. We also had an issue with the WiFi in our tent, which didn’t work. However, the team handled it well and even offered us another room, which was very attentive and appreciated. A couple of smaller points: the pool isn’t very large and wasn’t as clean as expected. And while the staff were super friendly, for a 5-star lodge there were a few small details missing (for example bathrobes in the room)."

"Loved the way bfast and lunch were served - platter style on tray. this way lodge does not have a lot of wasting of food. Very well planned and displayed. Sitting on deck under the trees, lovely setting and environment. Loved every minute of it, small intimate lodge"

"The rooms & main dining area are tastefully furnished - rustic luxury. The food was outstanding - the chef is brilliant. Our guide, JVR, was extremely knowledgeable about the environment and worked hard to make sure we got to see as much of the push as possible. We also had a talk on South African History from JVR one of the afternoons - really enjoyed that. The team did their absolute best to make sure we had a great holiday. It was definitely one of the best holidays I have had."

"The Wifi is a bit unstable and low performance - but it's not a show stopper. You're supposed to be on holiday... There's nothing really to complain about.. Mavela is brilliant."
