L'heure bleue

"We had a fantastic stay with Claude & Valérie, charming hosts with a beautiful property. The room was extremely comfortable & spacious. Perfect location too.... It's about 10 mins walk along the river to the centre of town. Breakfast was delicious and homemade to order. Nothing was too much trouble. Claude is a very interesting man to talk to. We shared lovely conversations about his life, family, work and travels. He gave us lots of recommendations for exploring Saintes and Royan. We hope to move to the area in a few years and Claude helped set us up with a local estate agent (his daughter) who handily spoke fluent English which was incredibly helpful as our French isn't great at the moment. The perfect stay."

"From the outside the location looked a bit shady at first. We passed it two times before we found it. Once inside the gate we saw a little paradise. Great style it looked like walking in an interior and garden magazine."

"We loved our stay at L’heure bleue. Claude and Valerie are welcoming hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The house is tastefully decorated and full of interesting artefacts. Our bedroom was spacious had a well appointed en suite shower room. Our hosts provided us with a delicious supper, eaten with them on their terrace and breakfast, all gluten-free on request, and even had gluten free beer at hand! They have a magnificent cave in the garden with tunnels dating to Roman times, and a troglodyte’s paradise for those so inclined. Our electric bikes were safely stored there and fully charged for our departure in the morning. It is the connection with strangers that make our travels so rewarding. Many thanks."

"It was a beautiful town with a lovely river that you could see from the bedroom. Claude and his wife Valarie welcomed us with a drink and showed us our beautiful bedroom with a lovely large en-suite bathroom . We had a very comfortable sleep and arranged to have breakfast at 9am breakfast was lovely . I would stay here again and recommend to family and friends. Thank you Valarie and Claude for a lovely stay 😃"

"The property was quiet and spectacular with a fascinating history. River views and an outdoor activity feeling. Our hosts were very engaging and accommodating. The experience was both personal and hospitable, with an almost family atmosphere. Personal touches, artworks and memories abound, making it all very welcoming. Private parking was important, provided and very secure. Recommendations for local hostelries were given, and we enjoyed a local restaurant in the town. Breakfast was first class also, and prepared as requested. A great experience which we hope to repeat!"

"Our time with Claude and Valerie was so enjoyable. We stayed several nights and felt right at home. We were traveling by train and Claude picked us up at the station and made dinner reservations for us at local restaurants during our stay in Saintes. The breakfast was excellent, the location along the Charente river was both peaceful and beautiful. Thank you Claude for a providing us with such a special experience. We hope to return someday."
